The team behind Skyblivion, an ambitious modding endeavor to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV in Skyrim’s engine, has just hit a significant milestone: they’ve completed the landscaping for all regions on their Cyrodiil map.
While there’s still work ahead to meet their 2025 release target, achieving this milestone brings them considerably closer. The team announced via Twitter, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass. Next up: Improve previously worked areas of the map to bring them to higher standards.”
Last month, the team shared an update video, stating they were “finalizing the world map, with only the Nibenay region on Cyrodiil’s Eastern border left to complete.” Well, it looks like that task is now checked off the list.
However, don’t get too excited just yet, as there’s still plenty left to do. The team may need to tackle additional tasks like navmeshing, which ensures that NPCs don’t wander aimlessly or get stuck in the environment—which remains an ever-present risk in both vanilla Skyrim and Oblivion.
Moreover, more effort is directed towards fleshing out interiors, especially those tied to quests which demand more detailed work and planning than regular interiors. It turns out that work hasn’t even started on six quests yet.
Skyblivion is still on the lookout for volunteers with the right skills to join the project, so if you’re interested, there’s an opportunity to get involved.
