Right now, Avowed doesn’t have plans to drop on PlayStation. But if you’re on PC, there’s a nifty way to pretend it does, thanks to some creative mods out there.
I mean, doesn’t it seem kind of inevitable that Avowed will eventually land on PlayStation? Xbox’s Phil Spencer often talks up sharing their games across different platforms. Even Halo is swirling in rumors about making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, so it’s hard to imagine Avowed won’t eventually find a home on the PS5. But as things stand, you’ll only find it on Xbox Series X/S and PC, which are perfectly fine platforms. Personally, though, I just have a soft spot for when games feature PlayStation’s UI. It just feels cozy.
Now, here’s where modders come in to save the day. They’ve whipped up a mod that transforms the game’s controller UI into PlayStation icons. Need to open something? Just hit that square button! Not sure which button to hit for jumping? The trusty cross button won’t let you down (unless, of course, you’re diving into Kingdom Hearts, but that’s a whole other story). A modder named NeuroticNinjah made this straightforward yet effective mod, perfect for those who love using a PlayStation controller on PC and like seeing the familiar PlayStation button prompts.
And if you’re not quite satisfied, modder Chachinito has another treat. They created a mod that swaps out the Avowed splash screen for the PlayStation Studios one. It doesn’t change gameplay, but it’s a playful nod for PlayStation fans who might feel a touch salty about Avowed being a technical Xbox exclusive. Sometimes, a little comic relief born out of spite can be quite entertaining.
We’re left to wonder if Avowed will hit PlayStation before any DLC or a sequel emerges, which the game’s director seems to be mulling over. Given how these things often take their sweet time, we might be in for a bit of a wait.
