Agent Fall, crafted by eastasiasoft and Pufferfish Digital, takes us back to the roots of gaming with its retro-style 2D side-scrolling shooter on the PlayStation 5. Curious about what it has to offer? Let’s dive into this review!
In Agent Fall, you step into a thrilling investigation following unusual activities at a clandestine military base hidden deep in the desert. It’s a race against time to uncover the mystery before things spiral out of control! You’re tasked with selecting one of four skilled agents, each holding a license to kill, to infiltrate this enigmatic location.
The game caters to all skill levels with its three difficulty settings: Recruit, Veteran, and Insane. “Recruit” eases you in with increased player HP and toned-down enemies. “Veteran” sits comfortably in the middle, offering a balanced challenge. Meanwhile, “Insane” lives up to its name, reducing your HP to a nail-biting 1, ramping up enemy health, and introducing permadeath—one wrong move and it’s game over!
Once you’ve chosen to play as either Johnson, Smith, Bianchi, or Diaz, you’ll start with a quick tutorial to get familiar with the controls. Navigate with the left stick or D-Pad, jump using the X button, and unleash your basic attack with the Square button. Feel like spicing things up? Toss a grenade with the Circle button—but watch your aim, as they travel in an arc and could backfire ominously if misjudged!
Your primary weapon boasts unlimited ammo, perfect for those intense firefights. However, you’ll stumble upon various powerful arms along the way, from shotguns to machine guns, a fiery flamethrower, and even a bazooka! Each extra weapon packs more punch but comes with limited ammo, so strategy is key. You can also snag more grenades and pick up a bulletproof vest for added protection, effectively doubling as a supplementary health bar.
For trophy hunters, Agent Fall presents a compelling reason to dive in. It features a full trophy roster, including the coveted Platinum. As a bonus, with its Cross-Buy release, purchasing it for the PS5 grants access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions. Each version has its own unique trophy list, split across 2 Bronze, 16 Silver, and 6 Gold accolades. Double the versions mean double the potential Platinum trophies for dedicated players!
Agent Fall successfully reimagines the classic side-scrolling shooter experience while setting itself on Sony’s latest console. As you choose from four agents to uncover the secrets lurking in the shadows of a desert base, the game offers a straightforward yet engaging 2D journey, complemented by collectible trophies for your triumphs. Priced attractively at $5.99, this Cross-Buy game is available for both PS4 and PS5, enhancing its appeal.
