The release of Freedom Wars Remastered has been quite the journey, with the latest update in March bringing a slew of bug fixes and some gameplay enhancements. Developer Dimps seems committed to refining this action RPG, which initially hit the market in January 2025.
Originally launched as a PS Vita exclusive back in 2014, Freedom Wars has finally expanded its reach across more platforms. With its remastered version now available on PC, PS5, PS4, and Switch, players can enjoy improved graphics, a smoother framerate, and exciting new features like a fresh difficulty level and revamped weapon crafting. Although the PC version faced a rocky start with mixed reviews on Steam, largely due to technical issues such as slowdowns and crashes, Dimps has been diligently addressing these problems. So far, they’ve rolled out four comprehensive updates that span all platforms.
March 4, 2025, marked another significant update for Freedom Wars Remastered, following updates in January and two in February. These updates aim to tackle numerous issues players encountered in this third-person action game. This recent patch addresses crashes in the Request Cooperation rooms, a bug stalling progression beyond CODE 6’s events, and configuration errors with loadouts right before missions kick off. On the PC version, a bug limiting direction changes for heavy melee attacks when using a keyboard and mouse has been fixed, while PS4 users should no longer struggle with selecting spawn points during Vs. Operations.
There’s more, of course. Dimps has introduced various gameplay tweaks and adjustments as well. Accessories now behave differently, the hit detection of Large Abductor’s gatling gun has seen improvements, and matchmaking has been enhanced. New features include the ability to execute a dash by holding down the dodge button and transforming private rooms into custom multiplayer rooms. Looking ahead, the development team suggests future updates will fine-tune weapon balancing and introduce additional quality-of-life features.
Considering the number of updates within just two months of Freedom Wars Remastered’s release, it’s clear Dimps is eager to win back the support of fans, especially after the troubled PC launch. However, whether these efforts will boost the game’s standing on Steam, where it still holds a "Mixed" rating, remains uncertain.
