RuneScape’s developer, Jagex, recently announced Jon Bellamy as their new CEO, succeeding Phil Mansell, who had been at the helm since 2017. Bellamy is no stranger to Jagex; he was part of their strategy and mergers and acquisitions team from 2015 to 2018. Since his initial stint at Jagex, Bellamy has broadened his experience at London Venture Partners and spent nearly five years at Huuuge Games, ending his tenure there as chief commercial officer.
In addition to these roles, he has lent his expertise as an advisor to companies like Pixion, Kohort, Stealth, and Maximillian. Interestingly, he’s worked with CVC, one of Jagex’s ownership groups. Adding to his credentials, Bellamy joined Jagex’s board of directors in October 2024.
Expressing his excitement, Bellamy stated, “I’m truly honored to take on the leadership role at Jagex. The RuneScape franchise is cherished by millions, including myself. It’s thrilling to collaborate with such a talented team, whom I’ve gotten to know well during my time on the board, to ensure our games remain top-tier globally. I’m looking forward to engaging with the team and refining our ambitions for Jagex. Soon, I’ll be sharing my broader vision with the RuneScape community.”
Phil Mansell reflected on his departure, saying, “After an unforgettable 14 years leading RuneScape and eight rewarding years as Jagex’s CEO, I’m now passing the torch to Jon Bellamy. Working with such a dedicated team, we’ve grown the company and its player community enormously, establishing Jagex as a pioneer in community-driven games. As Jagex steps into its next era, I am thrilled to transition leadership to someone who shares my passion for our games and business. I look forward to supporting Jon as he builds on the robust foundation we’ve laid.”
