I recently dove into the Overture trailer and then fell down a rabbit hole of detailed fan breakdowns that dissected every frame, trying to predict the future of the game. What are your hopes for the audience’s takeaway from the trailer? Are there particular details they should keep an eye on?
Ji-won Choi here. I couldn’t help but notice those intricate breakdowns myself, and to be honest, it warmed my heart to see such deep engagement from fans all around the globe. It’s a testament to the strong bond we’ve built over time. Our main aim with the trailer was straightforward: to show our fans that we truly hear them. Over time, we’ve received an array of valuable feedback, and we wanted the trailer to resonate with them, confirming that we’re actively listening and acting on their insights.
That’s an intriguing aspect. When “Lies of P” debuted, there weren’t huge external expectations attached. It looked promising, sure, but no one fully knew what to anticipate. Now, with its success, anticipation for “Overture” is through the roof. When you take in fan feedback, how do you decide what to incorporate into your vision? Is there a need to filter out certain elements?
You’ve hit on a significant part of our process. We approach game development as a partnership between us and the players, and we’re dedicated to that collaboration. We sift through all the feedback, deciphering what resonates and what doesn’t, and understanding where improvements are necessary. Some suggestions are straightforward, while others spark debates. Still, we never dismiss them outright. We discuss these ideas within our team and test them thoroughly. This process helps us determine which feedback aligns well with our goals and which doesn’t. We genuinely value this input and integrate it where possible.
Speaking of the trailer, my impression was that the original game felt quite solitary, except when you return to Hotel Krat and occasionally encounter others. However, in this new trailer, P is rarely alone. There’s the moment with the horn call, and Aladoro crashes through a window to lend a hand. Plus, there’s a masked ally fighting alongside P. Does “Overture” aim to be a more collective experience?
Predicting in-game emotions like loneliness can be tricky. But what we aimed to do was really flesh out the engaging characters we previously only touched upon. In the base game, players encountered—or merely heard about—various intriguing characters. The expansion takes this further, diving deeper into their stories and personalities. Our goal is to enrich players’ experiences by offering a complete narrative around these captivating characters, expanding on their previous introductions.
