One of the more visually captivating mods for The Witcher 3 has just emerged, blending the game’s stunning world with a bit of Skyrim-esque magic. Remember when someone creatively tossed Kazuma Kiryu’s iconic back tattoo onto Geralt? Well, now you can hop on a dragon and take to the skies, in a nod to Skyrim’s Dragonborn adventures over in Solstheim.
Last year, we saw a plethora of intriguing Witcher 3 mods, including new quests, a massive ship to explore, and even the chance to play as Ciri donning her Witcher 4 outfit. None of these additions would have been possible without the versatile REDkit tools.
This new mod, dubbed ‘Herald of the White Frost,’ comes from modding talent errornoaccess. They’re the creative mind behind the funny centaur horse-man Geralt mod I enjoyed last November. Besides that, they’ve also crafted mounts like griffins, fiends, and even White Orchard’s alchemist, Tomira, for your riding pleasure.
The latest innovation is a unique “custom dracolizard monster” which requires you to defeat it in an epic boss battle. Once victorious, you get to soar atop this beast, emulating Skyrim’s dragon riding—a feature we’ve all experimented with once or twice before letting it slip our minds.
You’ll find this dragon, Unhcegila, herald of the White Frost, lurking in the frosty town during the ‘Through Time and Space’ quest. Alternatively, summon it using the “Mysterious Sapphire Crystal” procured from one of four merchants as outlined in the mod description.
After a tough battle—judging by the feedback so far—you’ll earn the coveted “Horn of the Frozen Flame.” This allows you to summon the dragon for a ride, probably by equipping it similarly to a torch. The first ride comes with a quick tutorial explaining the dragon riding controls.
