It’s not uncommon to hear about another game biting the dust, and it looks like PlatinumGames’ Project G.G. could be joining that list. The game, reminiscent of an Ultra Man adventure, never really had much detail released about it.
Do you remember Project G.G.? I wouldn’t fault you if it slipped your mind. It was first announced back in 2020, but after that, silence. The game’s director, Hideki Kamiya, one of the studio’s founders, left at the end of 2023. This departure naturally raised questions about the game’s future, and now it appears unlikely it’ll ever make it to our screens. A visit to PlatinumGames’ official site reveals a list of ten games, showcasing titles like the Bayonetta series, Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and their fresh announcement, Ninja Gaiden 4.
Thanks to the Wayback Machine, we can see that their list previously included 22 titles. These were not just their original projects like the ill-fated Babylon’s Fall and Madworld, but also licensed games such as Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra. While those titles have been removed from the main list, they still maintain dedicated pages. Curiously, Project G.G. was also removed from this page and unlike the others, its URL now redirects straight to PlatinumGames’ homepage, suggesting its cancellation.
This development almost seals the fate of Project G.G., which isn’t entirely surprising given that Kamiya has been out of the picture for over a year. PlatinumGames has been somewhat of a guessing game lately, as there seems to have been a noticeable wave of staff departing. Nonetheless, the announcement of the new Ninja Gaiden game gives a glimmer of hope for the studio’s continuity, at least for the time being.
