Reflecting on last year’s release of No Man’s Sky Worlds Part I (version 5.0) for PS4, PS5, and PS VR2 players, it turned out to be one of our standout successes. Why do so many gamers gravitate to No Man’s Sky? It’s that undeniable thrill of adventure—soaring to uncharted planets, landing with the knowledge that you’re treading where no one has before. Worlds Part II expands this universe dramatically, adding billions of new star systems and trillions of unexplored planets. While enhancing the game’s engine and technology, we’ve ensured the elements that captivate our fans remain untouched. If you’ve spent time cultivating a stunning base on your favorite planet, rest assured, it’s still yours to cherish. Yet now, you can venture to newly vibrant worlds boasting unprecedented diversity.
As you traverse these freshly minted star systems, prepare to be awed by never-before-seen terrain, biomes, flora, and fauna. A revamped terrain system we’ve spent considerable time developing introduces everything from towering mountains begging to be climbed to oceans plummeting kilometers in depth, not to mention vast caverns and canyons reaching unimaginable scales.
In your exploration, be prepared to encounter the colossal Gas Giants. These massive celestial bodies are up to ten times the size of any planet you’ve previously explored. Tackling these Gas Giants, along with navigating the deep oceans, demands high-level technology to manage new environmental challenges like gas storms, intense deep-sea pressure, and unpredictable anomalies.
Our attention to enhancing water gameplay has been thorough, particularly with submarines like The Nautilus, fishing, and deep-sea exploration systems. New ocean technologies now let water dynamically interact with the environment. You’ll notice raindrops making dimples on water surfaces, ships leaving wakes, and players and creatures creating waves as they move.
Another significant overhaul is our lighting system. Expect sharper shadows, more defined sunlight and ambient occlusion, and stunningly detailed sunlight shimmering through foliage and metals. Nights are magical with starry skies and delicate clouds reflected in serene water bodies.
Many of these advancements stem from the dedication and insights gained while working on our upcoming fantasy adventure game, Light No Fire, which is keeping our dedicated team hard at work.
Beyond new celestial systems and technologies, Worlds Part II brings with it a host of fresh adventures. Dive into new quests and narratives, weaving together storylines and mysteries that have long intrigued our community. If you’re someone who loves unraveling the lore of the No Man’s Sky universe, there’s a treasure trove of knowledge awaiting you.
Joining this update is a new expedition which acts as a guided journey through some of the most impressive upgrades in Worlds Part II. The rewards for embarking on this mesmerizing voyage are as spectacular as they come, including a stunning new spacecraft—a fusion of a living ship and a jet fighter that’s as wild as it sounds!
This update for Worlds Part II serves as a beacon to our PlayStation community, heralding 2025 as a year full of promise for No Man’s Sky enthusiasts. Whether your platform of choice is PS5, PS4, or PS VR2, anticipate many thrilling experiences from our small yet untiring team. We’re absolutely thrilled to continue working on this game that holds a special place in our hearts.
Our adventure carries on.
