We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to enhance the PS5 experience, and today, we’re thrilled to share two exciting updates based on what’s been ringing in from our player community—these include the introduction of audio focus and a return to some beloved classic console designs for the PS5’s UI.
Catch the rollout of the new PS5 system update globally, starting April 24, coming soon to a console near you.
Let’s dive into the fresh features we have in store:
Audio Focus
This new Audio Focus feature is designed to dial up your gaming immersion. You’ll find handy presets to help amplify those quieter sounds, matching your preferred audio setup and letting you enjoy clearer soundscapes when using your favorite headphones or headsets. It’s all about making audio experiences more accessible and enjoyable.
When you turn on the audio focus setting, you get to choose from a variety of preset options. This means you can easily distinguish in-game sounds like character dialogue, subtle effects like footsteps and rustling leaves, as well as voices during party chats for a more rich gaming session.
To enable audio focus, head over to Settings > Sound > Volume > Audio Focus. You can also fine-tune these settings directly from the Control Center during gameplay, ensuring convenient adjustments whenever you need them.
You’ll find four different preset options to boost certain sounds:
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify those deep, rumbling sounds such as roaring engines.
- Boost Voices: Highlight voice chats and character dialogue.
- Boost High Pitch: Elevate those high-pitched cues like the sound of footsteps.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Pump up low-volume noises across a wide frequency range.
For each preset, you have the freedom to choose the level of boost—Weak, Medium, or Strong—to suit your listening preferences perfectly. You even get the option to separately tweak the support level for the Left and Right channels.
Do note, this feature works when you’re using headphones connected via USB or analog jack, but doesn’t apply to HDMI connections through TVs, AV receivers, or soundbars.
Classic Console Designs Make a Comeback

We’re excited to announce that these classics are back by popular demand! Now, you can relive the magic of those early consoles and customize your PS5 home screen with these iconic designs.
This feature, aptly named ‘Appearance,’ can be accessed under the Settings menu.
