The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake, and yes, I’m sticking to calling it a remake regardless of anyone calling it a remaster, has shot to the summit of the Steam Top Sellers list. Over 100,000 eager players have plunged through the newly envisioned gates of Oblivion, with those numbers climbing steadily.
As I embarked on this piece, the player base had reached 108,000. Fast forward just 30 minutes, and another 18,000 have joined the fray, tallying up to 144,000 players. Who knew a working day could be so tempting to escape?
While our European friends are clocked out and blissfully soaking up the remake they’ve longed for, here we are in the U.S., anchored to our desks, just waiting for that moment we can finally dive in. Like my brother-in-law texted earlier, it really is “the wrong day to go into the office.”
With the numbers only climbing, and as Americans clock off their shifts, I wouldn’t blink in disbelief if Oblivion’s player count soars to new heights. To provide some perspective, Skyrim reached around 280k and Starfield around 330k users. The buzz alone suggests that Oblivion could land somewhere in that range or possibly beyond.
Currently, only a handful of games boast more players than Oblivion, including Marvel Rivals, Schedule I, PUBG, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2. Remarkably, among these, just one is a paid title. I wouldn’t put it past the numbers to see Elder Scrolls break into the top three soon.
Let’s bear in mind these figures don’t account for Game Pass players. It’ll be fascinating to see the data Microsoft rolls out about the total player counts. I wager we’ll hear this week just how many millions have embraced the journey set by the Septim lineage.
Now, you might wonder, how might this impact other Xbox releases?
This week, we’re also seeing new games like Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 and the highly-anticipated Forza Horizon 5 hit the shelves. With Clair Obscure being a notable Game Pass release itself, one must wonder if its launch figures may suffer with Oblivion drawing so much attention.
Additionally, with Forza Horizon 5 making its move to PlayStation, despite being a different genre, the pull of Oblivion could still detract a portion of its audience.
So, have you relived the adventure of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion yet? Or are you planning to? Be honest, it’s hard to resist. Share your thoughts and favorite moments from the remaster here or hit us up on social media. Happy adventuring!
No need to wait; The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is ready to play on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. Dive in whenever you’re ready.
