Snail Games, the developer behind Ark: Aquatica, has pointed fingers at its marketing team for the recent AI-enhanced trailer that left quite an impression, though not exactly the intended one.
In a conversation with Aftermath, lead game designer Matt Kohl clarified that the animation utilized in the trailer was entirely produced through artificial intelligence. Kohl expressed his lack of insight into why the marketing team opted for this approach, mentioning, “That trailer was crafted by our marketing department.”
He explained further, “They took our assets and fed them into an AI to create the animation. That was solely a marketing decision. The development team had no involvement in that process, and there has been absolutely no use of AI in the actual development of Aquatica.”
The new trailer for Ark: Aquatica, an expansion to Ark: Survival Evolved, premiered at GDC. However, it was met with some critical remarks, including a scathing comment declaring it “disgusting” and urging the creators to feel ashamed.
In light of this feedback, Studio Wildcard, the developer of Ark: Survival Evolved, took to Twitter to clearly distance themselves from the project, reinforcing their non-involvement.
