While my fellow Elder Scrolls enthusiasts at the office are living it up, celebrating the surprise stream and launch of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, those of us looking ahead can rejoice in some exciting news. Todd Howard has finally given us a nod: The Elder Scrolls 6 is still on the horizon! Yes, he boldly confirmed the team is hard at work on it.
During a deluge of Oblivion Remaster updates and sneak peeks, Todd’s declaration stood out: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
Impressive, right? This statement holds more weight than any tidbits we’ve heard about The Elder Scrolls 6 since back in March 2024. That was when Bethesda revealed that early builds were circulating among testers and even teased that it was, likely, “fun.” Fingers crossed for that!
Let’s rewind a bit to when a former Skyrim designer let slip that we shouldn’t expect news about ES6 until roughly six months before its launch. That was October 2023. Just a month prior, Phil Spencer had expressed his belief that ES6 was about five years away from release. At the time, that sounded almost like a joke. Fast forward almost two years, and we’re still scrounging for details.
Now, within the realm of solid updates from Bethesda, we’ve had barely a peep. In August 2023, they did affirm that development was underway, a full five years post the big E3 announcement. It might be a long shot, but do you ever wonder if they might have jumped the gun with that initial reveal?
Setting aside the humor and slight cynicism, it’s genuinely heartening to sense a flicker of vitality from Elder Scrolls 6. It’s been ages—literally, I was a student when the game first got announced. Now, as an adult juggling bills, hobbies, and modern-day dating, Bethesda remains a powerhouse in crafting immersive RPGs. I have faith they’ll deliver something amazing. Could they just toss us a concept sketch or something? Remember, Liam Neeson had more to go on in “Taken” than we do about ES6’s existence.
